WDM is a technology which multiplexes a number of optical carrier signals onto a single optical fiber by using different wavelengths (i.e. colors) of laser light. This technique enables bidirectional communications over one strand of fiber, as well as multiplication of capacity. Within this scope, following features can be taken into account:

The  focus of this project contains twofold :

  • Embark on the design a road map for IoT business development associated with the Internet of Things in the country as well as to identify the required tasks and processes that must be considered in the implementation of the ecosystem
  • Present an effective action plans to the ministry of ICT that identifies the key objectives and how they will be achieved

Anticipated steps to achieve the following strategic objectives:

  • Create a road map for the Internet of Things
  • Identify influential actors with knowledge about the implementation of the ecosystem in the country
  • Determine a set of action plans in the following fields for the dissemination of the Internet of Things  across the country:
    • Infrastructure development
    • Introduce ideas, services related to the Internet of Things
    • Provide the Ministry of ICT's regulatory authority oversight and supervision over the legal, security and monitoring aspects of the Internet of Things
    • Encourage participation of the private sectors and market enterprises in the provision of Internet of Things products and services
  • Initiate business activities associated with the Internet of Things

Optical networks play an increasingly important role in the transmission of information in modern telecommunication arena. Therefore to pursue this trend in Iran, ICT research Institute is initiating the development of three prototypes of  STM-16 optical multiplexer systems for multiplexing four STM-4  level optical signal with the following features:

  • Ability to monitor SSM (Synchronous Statues Message) signals in the synchronization section
  •  Utilizing some algorithms to prioritize input signals
  • Providing multiplex section protection (MSP) mechanism
  •  Design based on a management software architecture  that supports the following  functionalities:
    • Failure-management functions, management configuration, performance management & security management

The proposed STM project comprises three phases which will begin following completion of the feasibility study:

• Multiplexing of four STM-4 optical input signals into one STM-16 optical signal & De-multiplexing on the reverse side

•  Customizing our prototype design to comply with the (ITU-T) standards and to fulfill requirements for national optical-based transmission network , then passing the know-how and experience down to domestic manufacturers

•   Building on the knowledge and expertise, moving to the next step of developing  world class STM-16 products aimed for the overseas market

This project sets up a laboratory for testing high-capacity optical transmission network equipment and devices at up to 100Gbps rate. The facility will be responsible for checking performance as well as for verifying adherence of their specifications to the global ITU-T standard. The main features of this assignment are:

  • Type approval lab must be equipped with the state-of-the-art tools and high-speed optical measurement instrumentation in order to be able to carry out its duties
  • The quality of testing procedure must be continually improving and becoming more stringent
  • High quality documentation must be created for all types of approval testing and verifications
  • Establishment of testing laboratories and quality approval system based on ISO 17025 standards

Within this scope, following features can be taken into account:

  • SDH & NG-SDH optical transport systems & networks up                                                        to 40Gbps                      
  • NG-DWDM & ROADM optical transport systems & networks up to 100Gbps capacity per channel
  • OTN systems of the OTU1 to OTU4
  • Ethernet conversion to PDH & SDH systems & vice versa, leading to 100GE & OTU-4

Type Approval Reference Laboratory for Optical Access System & Networks

In the fifth national development plan, the necessity of setting up reference type approval Labs in the field of communications & information technology is stipulated.  And, this is further emphasized by the fact that the access section of the National Information Network will be largely based on the GPON optical technology. Therefore, an important outcome of this assignment is to identify the highest quality systems and components for incorporation into the national fiber network.

Sharing  our accumulated experiences with the relevant academic faculties, transferring the know-how to domestic  optical  equipment manufacturers on standard-adherent products and backbone operators as well as providing advisory services to the regulatory authorities.

The aim is to establish a type approval facility to carry out verification tests on all submitted sample optical access systems and products in order to verify compatibility with global ITU-T standards. The testing procedure involves equipment performance checks and design specification measurements as well as field checks of sample systems, network, etc. to establish compliance with the relevant ITU-T protocols.

The project also calls for the procurement of the highest quality instrumentation, including measurement tools, evaluation and calibration equipment, etc., as well as for provision of comprehensivedocumentation on set up & test procedure

NGSTAP is a type approval system that can be employed for performance and functional testing. It is a service oriented platform which finds application in test and type approval projects to develop some tests independently and in parallel. This platform consists of various modules for definition, creation, running, monitoring and reporting of the different test scenarios and has been designed based on IMS model and with a look to the future.

NGSTAP architecture has been designed with a service oriented approach which offers services for test scenario design, test scenario creation, test scenario run and preparation of reports. Test scenarios are protocol independent and system runs them according to the selected protocol. The following are the main technical specifications can be mentioned in this regards:
