According to the public relations and information center of the presidency vice presidency for science and technology affairs, Hassan Rouhani, the president of Iran, provided a report on the most important issues of the country and government actions for developing knowledge-based companies in a television interview on January 1st.

In response to a question about social and cultural issues and the attention of the government toward these matters, Rouhani expressed: the first reconstructive move of the government was changing the cultural and social cabinet ministers. This is indicative of the significant importance of social and cultural matters for our government. In addition, big changes have been made in scientific and cultural areas and knowledge-based companies, the number of which has reached from 52 to 2700 active companies. Innovation and Development Fund is active and we have witnessed considerable improvements in scientific areas.

He mentioned the efforts made by universities and research centers to establish knowledge-based economy in the society, affirming: we have attempted to activate the production cycle of science, research and innovation and in order to commercialize knowledge-based companies. Social issues, specifically employment, are of paramount importance. Poverty and unemployment are the most effective foundations of social damages.

According to the report, there are currently more than 2800 active knowledge-based companies in Iran, among which 1706 are recently developed, 307 are industrial and 858 are production companies. These companies could benefit from different supports, such as tax and customs exemptions and primary import samples and more than 80 other services based on regulations of supporting knowledge-based companies.
